Experience the exquisite craftsmanship of Italama of Italy with this exceptional set of themed chess pieces. Each historical figure is intricately detailed, from the commanding Roman king in his ornate body armor and cloak, to the radiant queen in her flowing gown. The bishop is depicted as a centurion, while the knight stands out with a mounted soldier riding a camel. The rooks and pawns are also uniquely designed, with a Romanesque structure and chain-mail clad infantry for the rooks, and traditional Arab attire for the pawns. The Arab force is just as impressively detailed, with precise body armor and turbans for the king, and elegant robes and crowns for the queen. This luxurious set is completed with a beautiful 15.75 inch walnut and maple board from Spain, creating The Romans vs Arabs Themed Chess Set. Whether as a gift or for your own collection, these stunning pieces are sure to impress.

In the 7th to 11th centuries AD, the Arab-Byzantine wars, also known as the Arab vs Romans wars, were an ongoing series of conflicts. The Rashidun and Umayyad caliphs, along with their successors, were responsible for this clash of empires until the mid-11th century. The influx of Arabs from the peninsula in the 630s resulted in the conquest of Byzantine territories in Syria and Egypt by the Muslims. Under the aggressive Umayyad caliphs, the next 50 years witnessed continuous attacks into Asia Minor, two failed sieges of Constantinople, and the conquest of the Exarchate of Africa. Although the Second Arab Siege of Constantinople in 718 marked a turning point, with the establishment of embassies and periods of peace, conflict between the two powers persisted for centuries.
